An Attack On Patriotism Or Just A Mutual Truth?
The man who almost got us into a war with Russia ten years ago, and was only in a position to do so because he kissed Bill Clinton's ass, has taken a roundhouse right swing at RINO presidential nominee John Sith McCain that many on the Right are calling a "denigration of his heroism." Me? I'm not so sure.
Judge for yourself (via Newsmax Insider):
Retired General Wesley Clark, a former Democratic presidential candidate now supporting Barack Obama, said Sunday John McCain's military service does not automatically qualify him to be commander in chief.
Underscoring during a national television appearance a position he has been expressing for several weeks, Clark said performing heroic military service is not a substitute for gaining command experience.
"In the matters of national security policy making, it's a matter of understanding risk," he said on CBS' Face the Nation. "It's a matter of gauging your opponents and it's a matter of being held accountable. John McCain's never done any of that in his official positions. I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces, as a prisoner of war.
"He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee and he has traveled all over the world, but he hasn't held executive responsibility," Clark said. "That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded - that wasn't a wartime squadron."
Um, I hate to be the one to have to introduce some perspective that is lacking from my center-right brethren, but Ashley Wilkes isn't wrong in what he said about Lord Queeg. Military service in and of itself ISN'T a qualification for the presidency, and John McCain does NOT have any command OR executive experience on his resume. That, of course, is not to say that Sailor's national security judgment is, ipso facto, as godawful as that of Barack Hussein Obama. Who, as Clark helpfully, if implicitly, reminds us, also is bereft of executive and command experience, as well as a great deal of the legislative experience to which Maverick can lay claim, for whatever that's worth.
That, in turn, speaks to the butcher of Belgrade's judgment in taking a swipe at McCain that could not help but damage his own guy even worse. It's far from the first time that the blessedly retired general has broadcast his clinical loopiness for the whole world to behold in horrified fascination. But it is not, no matter how I look at it, a slam of McCain's patriotism or service to his country.
Still and all, it did provide Lucifer with an opportunity to sound gracious, bipartisan, and patriotic all at the same time....

....and smear that red, white, and blue feces all over his ill-disguised collectivist appeal to "sacrifice, to give up something we value for a larger cause" - like our lives, treasures, and sacred honor on the alter of Hopeandchange. "Give me your money and your freedoms, or I'll give you death" will be the "New Patriotism" that replaces the "Old Cynicism" that will have finally expired after 232 years.
There won't be any questioning of that.
