A Little Bit Short

I have never shared the obsession of my fellow political junkies with the vast and hidden meanings supposedly to be plumbed from the sifting analysis of campaign fundraising numbers.  As AP argues in another context, the name of the game is ultimately not to raise a ton of money, but to win elections.  Not unlike baseball, where you don't get any points for piling up the hits but not bringing your base-runners home.

Still, I'm not completely averse to dabbling in the blogospheric/punditocratic pasttime.  And it's hard not to notice how much attention the conspicuous absence of a Team Hussein announcement of its June fundraising numbers is attracting.  We know the trend has been downward ever since Barry's favorite pastor became a household name back in early spring.  In May Darth Queeg actually outraised him by a mil, and did a couple mil better in June.  Could it be that Lucifer's cash register is picking up cobwebs at an even faster rate?

And could it be that his peculiar combination of callowness, ignorance, radicalism, hauteur, and avalanche of rookie mistakes is so damaging his "brand" that even fundraising like he enjoyed months ago won't be enough to put any distance between him and the backstabbing geezer?

Not all that long ago I would have reflexively said, "Not a chance."  Now I respectfully abstain from expressing an opinion either way.  Clips like this Obama speech to La Raza are a lot of the reason why:

So does BO really believe that enforcement of immigration laws is tantamount to "terrorism"?  Or was he just pandering to that particular audience, continuingly heedless of the impossibility of such reckless rhetorical meandering not getting noticed and splattered all over the non-Enemy Media?

Does it matter?  McCain at least paid empty lip service before this same reconquista gang to the idea of controlling the borders first before moving on to another shamnesty, and got roundly booed for his trouble.  Obama isn't even glib enough to lie when it would actually serve his purposes to do so.  And when he does lie he does it so transparently, and backpedals so incompetently, that it becomes glaringly apparent that he would arguably be better off conducting a mute "front-porch" campaign, sit on his lead, and try to run out the clock.

It'd defintely be cheaper - particularly since, recall if you will, His Eminence has eschewed public financing.

Then again, also remember who and what Messiah's base is.  Shafting the nutters on Iraq, FISA, D.C. gun control, and (*AHEM*) public campaign financing is not the way to re-open their wallets like the legs of Clinton interns.  The "ICE=Nazi brownshirts" line may be targeted specifically at them, an out-of-the-mainstream sop, a wacko peace offering.  A downpayment, anyway.

If it doesn't work by September, well, Adolph Ahmadinejad is returning to Gotham for the third time to tour his future estates.  Maybe Our Mr. Hussein can give him that guided tour of Ground Zero he was denied a year ago.

If, of course, Barry O's new best buddy isn't given other matters to attend to instead.
