Harry Reid Cracks A Joke

Americans are looking to Congress to move America toward energy independence and what does Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid do instead? He schedules a vote on an $11 billion pork barrel spending package - with no offsets!

That's right - another $11 billion added directly to the deficit. You won't believe the story.

Anti-spending champion Senator Tom Coburn has used a time-honored Senate tradition to put "holds" on thirty-six different spending bills to prevent them from being passed without a full debate. Many of these bills are worthwhile, but others would, in the words of the Wall Street Journal, "enrich special interests and private developers at the expense of taxpayers."

They would also fund such "critical" projects as a greenhouse in Maryland, studying historic shipwrecks, and the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture. At a time when the costs of gas and food are skyrocketing, these are the wrong priorities.

Frustrated at Coburn's holds, Reid rolled all these bills into one - cynically calling it the "Coburn Omnibus" - and plans to hold a straight up-or-down vote, no amendments. You can help stop this outrage!

Please contact your senators and tell them to oppose the "Coburn Omnibus." They'll know what you mean - and they'll get the message.

Wow, Dirty Harry is cute when he tries to impersonate George Mitchell, doesn't he?

Wasn't it Reid and Pelosi and that bunch of liars, crooks, and thieves that swindled their way back to control of Congress two years ago on the garishly self-righteous mantle of crusading "reformers" who were going to "clean up" the "Republican culture of corruption"?  Are these not the same people whose crypto-Marxist environmental policies have locked up our domestic energy supplies tighter than a bull's ass in fly season for over thirty years and now obstinately refuse to relax that obstructionism in the slightest despite overwhelming public demand to "drill more, drill now"?  Is it not they who, in a time of spiraling energy prices for which they are primarily responsible, are trying to tack an extra ten cents onto the federal gas tax to help pay for all this bilge?

And the Democrats are going to expand their majorities this November?

Something about this equation just doesn't add up - and there's nothing wrong with my calculator.
