The Flip-Flop-Flip That Time Forgot

Okay, I didn't forget it, I simply wasn't paying attention because I've been finding it abruptly difficult to motivate myself to blog over the past week, for a reason or reasons that I have been thus far unable to identify.

Although they may have to do with nonsense like this:

“I’ve always said that the pace of withdrawal would be dictated by the safety and security of our troops and the need to maintain stability. That assessment has not changed,” he said. “And when I go to Iraq and have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I’m sure I’ll have more information and will continue to refine my policies.”…

“My 16-month timeline, if you examine everything that I’ve said, was always premised on making sure that our troops were safe,” he said. “I said that based on the information that we had received from our commanders that one to two brigades a month could be pulled out safely, from a logistical perspective. My guiding approach continues to be that we’ve got to make sure that our troops are safe and that Iraq is stable.”

He added, “I’m going to continue to gather information to find out whether those conditions still hold.”

"He" is Barack Hussein Obama, who, of course, has always been a hawk on Iraq, and aren't you just a purblind idiot if you didn't pick up on that, despite his own website mentioning nothing about his quest for Iraqi stability and a ton on "keeping our troops safe," by, in effect, putting American civilians back in the terrorist crosshairs.

Evidently there are a lot of purblind idiots out there, which may explain why BO all but tore a hamstring sprinting to the nearest post-presser camera-and-microphone combo to further "refine" his Iraq policy remarks:

In a second, quickly-scheduled press availability, the Senator insists his position on Iraq has not changed.

“I intend to end this war… That position has not changed. I have not equivocated on that position. I am not searching for maneuvering room with respect to that position.”

Though he also says:

“I have always reserved the right to do what’s best for America’s national interest… I would be a poor commander-in-chief if I didn’t take facts on the ground into account.”

I dunno, maybe we're making too much out of this flip-flop gimmick.  Maybe we need a better metaphor, like weathervane or windmill or piece of fluff trapped in an F5 tornado.  Definitely less rhetorically cumbersome than flip-flop-flap-flep-flup.

What strikes me is that Lucifer continues to slither frantically all over the PR landscape while ideologically his gyrations are taking place within so comparitively narrow a spectrum band.  The orientation is still defeatist, all about withdrawal; all he's done is toss in a phony nod to Iraqi "stability," which will be jettisoned just as soon as it's propaganda-expedient.  If he's going to REALLY flip-flop on Iraq, all he'd need to do is substitute a single word in that "clarification" above: remove "end" and insert "win".  "I intend to win this war" is the path to nullifying whatever advantage McCain has on Iraq as well as cloaking his cut & run instincts in a saleable skin.  To say nothing of the fact that George W. Bush has already accomplished that via the "Surge," leaving Generalissimo Hussein free to swoop in and take credit for it.

The end result would be the same - Iraq surrendered to al Qaeda and Iran - but instead of getting the blame for a self-created strategic disaster, St. Barry would glom the credit for the stability he'd squandered and perhaps even cast responsibility back upstream to his predecessor to boot.

The first rule of effective lying is never make any public allusion that the lies you're telling are anything less than the unvarnished truth.  The moment you go on the defensive in that arena, you're finished.

Unless you're The Great Black Hope(andchange), anyway.  Still, maybe if BO kisses BillyJeff's ass long enough, he'll give the young man some much-needed pointers.
