Targeting The Wrong Audience

Earlier today John Sith McCain, for reasons that defy logical explanation, chose now, when Barack Hussein Obama has never been more vulnerable, to do the assumptive Democrat nominee a huge favor by burying himself in the eyes of the Republican base he's been trying frantically to reel in.  Given that that is McCain's biggest vulnerability, logic would indicate that the correct course of action on the part of the Democrats is to step back and let the septuagenarian backstabber blow his own feet off, and offer burnt fetal offerings to Gaia for their good fortune.

Instead, the DNC rushed right out to try and mend Sailor's intra-GOP fences:

Really, neither of these ads says anything other than that there is an overabundance of video clips that can be spliced and edited together to "prove" just about any contention a campaign wants to assert.

But of the two spots, you have to conclude that the Donk offering is much the less convincing.  McCain's "maverick" reputation is hardly unearned, after all; the past ten years are littered with his issue defections, rebellions, and betrayals, as well as his ongoing cultivation of the Enemy Media that won him back-handed plaudits as "the media's favorite Republican."  Heck, Lord Queeg was putting the "tingle" into Chris Matthews' dangling extremity when BO was fixing local elections for the Chicago Donk machine, just as he's been a bigger pain in George W. Bush's ass than anybody on the wrong side of the aisle.  His "memo of understanding" caper was more responsible than any other single factor for the GOP losing majority control of the Senate two years ago.  In virtually every way that matters, John McCain has been the best friend the Democrat Party has had in a very, very long time.

Trying to reinvent him, therefore, as a "clone of George Bush" is actively risible.  All the more so with the clip they chose, as though there was really any chance that Dubya was not going to carry through with the ritual of passing the baton and his blessing to his successor as titular party head - regardless of whether or not it was sincere.  Is there anybody who wouldn't recognize that for precisely what it was - or, for that matter, considers GDub to be politically relevant anymore, no matter what his approval rating is?

That, of course, is the silver lining for the Dems, even as it's doubtless something Team Sith is counting on.  All of which goes to show that they're BOTH nuts.
