102 Minutes That Changed Nothing
Hard to believe that this was seven years ago this morning:
It's also hard to believe that a mere seven years later, we've gone completely back to sleep regarding the threat of another major attack, and we're seriously considering electing as our next president a Marxist pacifist who plans to bow down to these enemies that slew three thousand of our fellow citizens on that bright yet dark Tuesday morning as well as their friends and allies.
Or maybe it isn't. To lend some historical perspective, on the seventh anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, World War II had been over, and our attackers crushed, for three and a quarter years. We didn't waste any time taking care of business back then, whereas our unified righteous indignation this time petered out after a year and a half, with the war only half finished and Syria and Iran undefeated and unengaged. Since then America's domestic enemies have done everything in their power to prevent an overall victorious conclusion to the War Against Islamic Fundamentalism, unravel the liberations of Afghanistan and Iraq, roll back anti-terrorism provisions and programs like the Patriot Act, coercive but non-tortureous jihadi-intelligence gathering techniques, and the NSA terrorist surveillance and SWIFT anti-terrorist financing programs, lavish upon captured jihadis constitutional rights in excess of what actual American citizens (to say nothing of evangelical Christians) enjoy, and otherwise turn the policy clock back to the full-monte September 10th mentality that facilitated "Holy Tuesday" in the first place.
If John Sith McCain wins in November, it's at least possible that the lessons of seven years ago won't have to be re-learned, at least for another four years. If Barack Hussein Obama ascends, the cost in blood and lives and treasure will be horrifically worse, the lessons will be actively ignored, and the three thousand Americans who perished on 9/11/01 will have done so....for nothing.
