Palinmania Running Wild
But first, the quiet prelude that Rudy Giuliani's "F You!" speech bumped from Wedneday's convention program:
I don't think "Pain with an 'L'" needed that introduction, do you?
Judging by the Nielson ratings for Barracuda's speech, I'd say that was a widely held sentiment:
The Sarah Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just 1.1 million viewers short of Barack Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo). [emphasis added]
I don't know how many additional viewers those four ethnically targeted cable channels would have delivered, but it seems to me that 1.1 million between them wouldn't have been out of the realm of plausibility.
And why did SP's address garner so much public interest and attention? Could it possibly be because the Enemy Media and its fever swamp puppetmasters spent five days lampooning her as some bizarro hybrid of Lady MacBeth and Tanya Harding of the Great White North? Oh, most viewers probably tuned in out of constructive curiosity, but others doubtless did so expecting to see a freakshow; or at the very least, the piece of trailer park trash they were expecting fall flat on her face before the entire country.
Having helpfully provided her with this Obamaesque national audience, Governor Palin proceeded to completely demolish (1) all the hostile press stereotypes of her, (2) Barack Obama's entire political persona and self-justification for his candidacy, (3) Dirty Harry Reid as a pussy just because she could, while making a stirring case for Reagan conservatism, the GOP's pro-energy, pro-victory platform, and her septuagenarian running mate - and did it all with a Gipperesque smile.
I cannot help but assume that "Babraham Lincoln"'s debut had some coattail effect on the audience size for Darth Queeg's acceptance speech the following night, which actually exceeded The Chosen One's by half a million households. Ditto the results of Rasmussen's Tuesday-Thursday survey, which shows Governor Palin more popular than McCain AND Obama and running more or less neck and neck with Barry on the experience question. Which, of course, diminishes Barry dramatically simply in the comparison of him, as the Donk presidential nominee, with the other party's veep - a comparison his campaign reflexively and idiotically initiated, don't forget. BO was already a laughingstock compared to the mountainous gravitas of McCain's POW biography and life experience; now his meager, empty "experience" and the even more woeful judgment that is supposed to compensate for it are being trumped by a "mom in hunting boots". Something tells me a lot more Americans were roaring their approval at Palin's dismantling of False Messiah like she was gutting a bagged elk than just the 'Pubbies at the XCel Energy Center.
Something like...today's Rasmussen (Wednesday-Friday) survey:
As McCain has begun to chip away as Obama’s convention bounce, most of his gains have come among women voters. Obama still leads 51% to 44% among women, but that seven-point edge is just half the fourteen point lead he enjoyed last Tuesday. McCain leads by three among men, little changed in recent days.
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Obama voters now say they are voting with enthusiasm for their candidate while 17% are primarily voting against the other candidate. For McCain, those numbers are 65% and 28% respectively. Before the Republican convention, just 54% of McCain voters were voting enthusiastically for him rather than simply voting against Obama. [emphases added]
Reflected glory, but glory nonetheless. Barracuda may prove to be an exception to the rule that people don't vote for the bottom of the ticket.
See the rock star welcome she and the old duffer she's hanging out with got in Colorado Springs today (reportedly the rule rather than the exception) and judge for yourself:
If you think that the Sith Master would be drawing that level of turnout and enthusiasm with Tom "Charisma Sinkhole" Ridge or poor ol' Joe Lieberman, I've got a bridge to nowhere I'd like to show you.
Gentlebeings, the Left has no idea, not the slightest clue, of the Pandora's Box they've opened by their belated, ferocious, and colossally failed attempt to "kill this woman and kill her quick." They let their elitist, ideological, Christophobic prejudices bamboozle them into turning this previously obscure woman from the other end of the continent into "the American Thatcher" - and perhaps stuck the fork in their own preferred candidate:
Now the Democrats are stuck in a trap. They've demeaned, patronized and smeared a woman who's well on her way to becoming very, very popular. Her speech will create legions of fans; the Democratic smears of the last few days will create, for Obama, legions of enemies.
This man who dedicated two years to stopping a woman from being president now has to answer for spending two months stopping one from becoming vice president — a task he hopes to accomplish using women's votes. [emphasis added]
Women's votes he's counting on none other than Hillary Clinton to shore up for him.
I"ve written off the 2008 election from the start as another 1964 for the GOP. John Sith McCain's seizing of the party's presidential nomination reinforced that conclusion, because it guaranteed the base would be estranged, unmotivated, and stay home in droves. Even Sailor's masterful campaign strategizing over the summer simply meant a respectable margin of defeat rather than a complete electoral disaster.
But now? With Obamania spent and Palinmania just getting started? And the Enemy Media compelled by their own nature and their own self-created desperation to keep attacking her relentlessly in the hope that something will finally stick? Suddenly the impossible is looking like the doable.
But then isn't that what Sarah Palin has been doing for her entire political career?
