Hard Look (2/16/09)
A decent pair of webvideo offerings from the boarded-up, condemned National Republican Senatorial Committee - hopefully with broader distribution than the sides of milk cartons:
"Spendocrats"; accurate, if not terribly clever. Of course, some of us always knew that Donks were insatiable; some of us saw this coming all the way back in the 2006 mid-term campaign; some of us asked the question of how it made any sense to throw out the Republican majorities in the House and Senate and replace them with the party that wrote the book on overspending and profligacy and waste and corruption and authoritarian Big Government if the public's beef with the GOP was that they were, um, porking too much. I didn't think the memories of a majority of voters would be that short. Shows what a naif I was, I guess.
This clip was inevitable:
Makes you wanna just slap that slimy, arrogant prick, doesn't it? Of course, that's pretty much my usual reaction to "Schmucky" Schumer. (h/t: Double-M) But is he wrong about Americans "not caring about pork"? Again, they seemed to care a great deal when it was the Republicans indulging themselves in it; was that a case of being anti-spending, or just objecting to one party doing it instead of the other? Or was it that the voters didn't think Republicans were spending enough, or were porking on the wrong things? That sure seems to be Schmucky's complacent attitude.
However, according to Rasmussen, support for Hogzilla is now down to 38%. But is that a backlash against this downpayment on communization, or the way it was jammed down the throats of the public with functionally no public debate or disclosure and a ton of Obamunist fearmongering and demogoguery? Or is a majority of the public linking the two very related notions and connecting those two dots?
Let's say the public is turning against Red Barry and the Dems - what does it matter in any practical sense? Neither the decimated Republicans nor We, The People, can stop anything. And it was We, The People (or, rather, YOU, The People, since I never voted for any of those worthless animals), who gave them total power in the first place. No wonder Schmucky thinks Americans don't care about pork. Not only did they entrench him and his Marxist junta in power, but if he is wrong now, they're so entrenched in power that what the American people think is as irrelevant as the GOP itself.
At least until November 2010. That's when that particular rubber will meet that particular road. Here's praying the right "pedestrians" get run over. Otherwise, Venezuela's present will be Obamerika's future.
