A Suicidal Betrayal
Behold, the 21st century Winston Churchill:
The bad news for Bebe? In World War II, the United States was on Churchill's nation's side:
DB: How aggressive can Obama be in insisting to the Israelis that a military strike might be in America’s worst interest?Brzezinski: We are not exactly impotent little babies. They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?DB: What if they fly over anyway?Brzezinski: Well, we have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a Liberty in reverse.
And if they don't turn back, what then, Zbig? Order our warplanes to back down and slink back to base? Or take the final step and do the mullahs' job for them?
Michael Goldfarb draws the same conclusion I do:
So conjure the image - the Obama administration sending U.S. aircraft up to protect Iran's airspace and its nuclear installations from an attack by a democracy that is one of America's closest allies. Unfortunately, this may not be so hard to imagine in Israel, where the number of people who believe Obama is pro-Israel is at just 4% - and falling. And given Obama's (literally) submissive posture to the Saudis, his indulgence of the Iranians, and his simultaneously hard-line approach to Israel, it seems even some of Obama's supporters can savor the possibility of a "reverse Liberty."
I realize the ever-present risk of overusing terms like "stark-bleeping INSANE!!!" in times such as these, but what else can you call such a mentality? It would go beyond mere appeasement to a full-scale switching of sides to cobelligerency with the enemy that has for thirty years declared its intention to bring about our collective "death," and now has the means to make it a reality. And it would make America the declared foe of the nation about whom it is written:
I [God] will bless those who bless you [Israel], and the one who curses you I will curse.
The saving - for now - grace is that following the advice of Jimmy Carter's National Security Advisor would be political suicide for Barack Obama. The ominous caveat is that its perverse logic - decimate the IAF (assuming we could) in order to avert a war with Iran that the U.S. would certainly get dragged into no matter how frantically False Messiah begged and groveled - is something you can see him formulating all on his own far too easily.
The worst part? We're almost guaranteed to find out, one way or the other.
