The Masada Complex
I can't help but wonder whether this....
....might actually be an apocalyptic reaction to....well, what The Newest Nixon would consider to be at least a media apocalypse:
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp (NWSA.O) and John Malone’s Liberty Media Corp (LINTA.O) are interested in NBC Universal, according to a report by CNBC, citing sources.
Cable company Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O) has been widely reported to be in talks with NBC Universal parent General Electric Co (GE.N) to buy a controlling stake in the broadcast, cable and movie company…
News Corp, which owns the Fox cable network and local TV stations, had been seen as a less likely bidder, analysts have said, because taking a stake in NBC might raise antitrust concerns with the U.S. government.
Today, the cable news market; tomorrow, the networks. By the time Murdoch is finished, we might actually have a free, objective press in this country again. Though I tend to think Brit Hume would be kicking Brian Williams into the unemployment line next to Olby rather than FactorMan.
Which begs the question: If Eric The Red is going to indulge in another restraint-of-trade (and he will), and Red Barry is outsourcing his dissident media crackdown to his wacko galaxy, why so gratuitously make such public weenies of themselves that they incur such gleeful segments from Public Enemies #1?
