The Blob Finks Out

Like night follows day follows night:

One day after she suspended her own campaign and declined to publicly endorse either of her opponents, Republican Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava has formally announced her support for Democratic candidate Bill Owens. …

This isn’t a huge surprise. According to the Watertown Times, Scozzafava, who is angry about the indignities she suffered at the hands of Conservative nominee Doug Hoffman, was quietly encouraging her supporters yesterday to support Owens.

In addition, her labor leader husband, Ron McDougall, issued a late-night endorsement of Owens via a statement released by the AFL -CIO, which signaled the start of a labor wave moving from Scozzafava’s camp to Owens’ side. This could prove critical when it comes to the GOTV effort.

Here's some full disclosure: I had never heard of Doug Hoffman prior to two weeks ago.  Of course, neither had I heard of Dede Scazzafava or Bill Owen either, or was aware there even WAS a special election in NY-23.  Difference is, I don't think many people in this upstate New York congressional district had heard of Doug Hoffman, either.  And they still wouldn't have if Blobby hadn't gone postal on a Weekly Standard reporter, then tried to smear him, THEN tried to control the damage by staging an appearance OUTSIDE HOFFMAN'S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS.  These are the "indiginities" she suffered, they were ALL self-inflicted, and Hoffman had nothing to do with them other than simply being the right recipient of her meltdown in the right place at the right time.  Are they sure somebody didn't sneak Rosanne Barr in Watertown when nobody was looking?  I hestitate to call Scazzafava a "princess" because the visuals are nausea-inducing, but she's got some serious entiitlement-mentality problems going on here.

Even without the tierra-whining, the fact that her husband (?!?) is a Big Labor thug just reinforces her hard-Left ideology, leaving the serious observer shaking there heads at how such a creature ever got into the Republican Party (Isn't there SOME threshold of requisite compatability with what the party is SUPPOSED to stand for?), much less nominated for a run at a congressional seat, still less than that the question of WHY she hasn't been a Democrat all along.  Perhaps the Dems didn't want to dilute their mental gene pool any more than they have already, given the dullardry of their congressional leadership.  Now, of course, they'll have no choice in the matter, which is why Dede Scazzafava's nascent political career is deader than a smelt - or, rather, deader than a basking shark.

You want another non-surprise?  Guess who started a full-court press on the Blob the instant she dropped out yesterday?  The butterfly effect could tickle that warthog's insatiable vanity from the next galactic spiral arm.  Reveals two things: (1) The ObamaHouse knows Owens has a shot at flipping NY-23; (2) they also know that shot is shrinking like The One's own poll numbers, and they're down to literally hours to try and salvage the opportunity.

Okay, here's a surprise: The Blob's campaign manager endorsed....Hoffman.  Which means, at least to me, that that poor schlep wasn't in on the sting.  Think the RNC and NRCC mightn't like to have their nine hundred grand back - and Newt Gingrich his dignity and credibility - right now?
