Capped?

Bad news for the White House: "[O]ur long national nightmare is … over-ish."

After eighty-five days, sixteen hours, twenty-five minutes, and an undisclosed number of seconds, has Armus finally been brought to its knees?:

A tightly fitted cap was successfully keeping oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time in three months, BP said Thursday. The victory — long awaited by weary residents along the coast — is the most significant milestone yet in BP’s effort to control one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history…

Now begins a waiting period to see if the cap can hold the oil without blowing a new leak in the well. Engineers will monitor pressure readings incrementally for up to forty-eight hours before reopening the cap while they decide what to do.

Though not a permanent fix, the solution has been the only one that has worked to stem the flow of oil since April. BP is drilling two relief wells so it can pump mud and cement into the leaking well in hopes of plugging it for good by mid-August.

This is good for the Gulf, if distendedly into "too little, too late" territory.  With (prayerfully) no more crude gushing uselessly into the sea, the cleanup can finally make some headway - if, of course, Lucifer will get his scrawny checkered-pants butt out of the way:

Again, assuming the damn hole is plugged, the Hussein junta no longer even has the flimsy excuse of cleanup efforts being pointless while Armus is still growing.  Now we'll see just how greedy and obsessive The One really is.  With no more spill or BP villainy to hide behind, will he continue to bureaucratically obstruct cleanup efforts in order to wring even more mileage out of the best cover he'll ever have to push cripple & tax?  Even after having his drilling ban knocked down twice by the courts?  Or will he finally recognize that he can only further damage his presidency by doing so and, as Sean Connery quietly told Harrison Ford at the end of Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, "Indiana....let it go"?

Yeah, I know, rhetorical question.
