Panic On De Nile

This latest spasm started Sunday on Press The Meat when David Gregory asked "Beltway Bob" Gibbs what I'm sure he thought would be taken as a rhetorical question about the midterm elections, given Gibbsy the chance to chuckle and confidentally reply, "No, of course the House isn't in play, David, in fact, we Democrats are going to gain seats in November."  Which would have made an even bigger ass of him than he usually does, but that's his job description, after all.

Instead, Gregory got this:

"I think there’s no doubt there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control. There’s no doubt about that."  WTF?  Where did THIS bit of candor come from?  Maybe stopped clocks are right twice a day after all.

Ensign Ed theorized that it was a White House wake-up call to the Donk base, which is as good a guess as any, but is comparable to giving up on the ground game when you're four touchdowns behind with six minutes left in the fourth quarter and have been giving away your sideline play-calls to the other team the whole game.  Dems are doomed because Barack Obama bribed, bullied, and bulldozed them into ramming through large chunks of the left-wing extremist agenda independents and "Obamicans" never wittingly voted for.  Or, the Reader's Digest version: Dems are doomed because of Barack Obama.

In a way, you could understand why Crazy Nancy would get pissed about this.  It's his agenda that is going to cost her the Speaker's gavel, after all, even if she'd only be figuring it out this late in the game.  But of course, she hasn't figured out a blessed thing:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bashed White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Tuesday night, even as the president’s top spokesman continued to backpedal from his assertion that Democrats could lose control of the House in the November election.

The fusillade from Pelosi and other Democrats at a closed-door meeting escalated an already fiery clash between the White House and its own party in Congress. During the tense evening meeting, the speaker grilled the top White House aide in attendance, senior legislative affairs staffer Dan Turton, about the impact of Gibbs’ comments.

“How could [Gibbs] know what is going on in our districts?” Pelosi told her members in the caucus meeting in the basement of the Capitol Tuesday night. “Some may weigh his words more than others. We have made our disagreement known to the White House.”

Granny Botox isn't sailing down a river in Egypt, she's hurtling down it in a jet&rocket-propelled speedboat.  Whereas the White House knew all along that O-Care was going to cast their congressional majorities to the four winds, San Fran Nan is bitterly clinging to their "ObamaCare is a political winner!" yowler like Linus to his blanket.  Because it is IMPOSSIBLE that the communization of America that she and her mymidons have been tyrannically pursuing could be loathed by the lumpenproletariat that finally achieved "enlightenment" in 2008.

It can't be true.

It can't:

Remember, though, per the left’s meme du jour, the beginning and end of their problems heading into the midterms has to do with how the White House is selling its policies, not with the substance of the policies themselves. That’s why you’re suddenly seeing calls for Axelrod to be fired and why House Democrats can’t stop screeching about Gibbs’s innocuous admission over the weekend that their congressional majority might — might — be in jeopardy. Liberal programs are, as always, winners on the merits; if voters oppose them passionately, to the tune of 57% supporting Arizona’s new law and another 17% saying the law doesn’t go far enough, it is and can only be poor “messaging” that’s making them react that way.

Are any of the myrmidons refusing to buy the craptasticness?  Why, as a matter of fact, yes they are - specifically, the ones that have the least latitude to indulge in Pelosian delusionalism:

The irony?  Kirkpatrick and dozens of her fellow-travelers are dead Donks walking already, and there's nothing they or their Messiah can do to save them.  The difference between them and the Shrieker?  They bitterly cling to forelorn "hope"; she doesn't think she or they need it.

How surreal that it casts Serpenthead in the role of Jacob Marley....
