The Senate Declares War On Arizona

Dear Friends:

Last night, Democrats in the Senate defeated my amendment to stop President Obama's administration from suing Arizona for its immigration law. Here's the story from the Associated Press.

As you know, the Arizona law simply enforces federal immigration laws -- something the federal government has failed to do. The law makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally, and requires police officers to check the immigration status of individuals they suspect are illegal immigrants when the person has been stopped or arrested for another crime.

One of the Democrat Senators who voted against the amendment was Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado. Bennet was hand-picked by President Obama to fill the seat vacated by former Senator Ken Salazar.

If conservatives want to defeat Michael Bennet in November and begin to enforce our nation's immigration laws, we must make sure Ken Buck is the Republican nominated to face him. Ken Buck is the only candidate who has a proven record of fighting illegal immigration.

In fact, Ken's primary opponent said this week that she would not require illegal immigrants to return home. Instead, she endorsed a new form of amnesty where illegal immigrants could stay in the U.S. if they serve 30 hours of community service. You can read more here and here.

The immigration amendment was not the only thing Democrats defeated last night. They also killed my amendment to permanently repeal the death tax. The death tax was phased out this year but is scheduled to snap back to 55% next year. You can read the coverage of the vote in the Wall Street Journal.

You won't be surprised to learn that Senator Michael Bennet also voted against this amendment, preferring to allow this immoral tax to come back to life next year and crush small businesses and family farms in Colorado.

This vote is important too because it presents another reason why we need Ken Buck to be the Republican nominee in Colorado. You see, Ken Buck is the only candidate who can stand on a stage with Michael Bennet and say he has never supported a tax hike on Colorado families. Ken's Republican opponent supported the largest tax hike in Colorado history.

So whether it's about enforcing immigration laws or about fighting tax hikes, Ken Buck is the best choice for Colorado and the best choice for America.

We need your help in this race right now. The ballots for the primary election were mailed to voters on Monday and will begin arriving in mailboxes today. If we're going to elect a true conservative from Colorado who will faithfully stand up for our values, we need to help Ken Buck raise another $35,000.
