Pass The Popcorn

Man, we haven't even gotten to Labor Day and already Campaign '10 is (almost) more fun than foreplay....

***Yes, label him a liar.  And not just about a war four decades in the past:

Richard Blumenthal’s words are haunting him again. Already forced to apologize for saying he had served “in” Vietnam in the Marine Reserve rather than stateside, the state attorney general’s campaign for U.S. Senate is now being challenged to explain his assertion that he had “never taken PAC money” and has “rejected all special interest money.”

Federal records show that he has accepted $480,000 in political action committee money since he made that claim in January. Moreover, his Republican opponent, former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon, points to nearly $17,000 Blumenthal received as a state legislative candidate in the 1980s — a figure Blumenthal’s campaign does not dispute.

In one sense, you can almost understand (if not condone) why such flagrant mendacities come so easy to "Hanoi Dick".  (1) He's a Democrat, so dishonesty is in his DNA; (2) he's a Democrat in so-"blue"-it's-almost-(um)-black Connecticut, a Donk stronghold where the ruling party is never, EVER challenged on ANYTHING.  He got away with his Vietnam fairy tales for years, didn't he?  And probably a lot more, and worse, fibrications than that.  So he started in on his Vietnam tale tales, he was just doing what had become second nature to him.

And if this were pretty much any other cycle, it wouldn't have mattered.  But this is the "America Rising" cycle, the "mother of all anti-Donk backlashes" cycle, and Blumie has a "nightmare" for an opponent.  The McMahons are not your ordinary, genteel, Marquis-de-Queensbury rules, country club blueblood, go-along-to-get-along RINOs who dociley know their place and wait for the occasional scrap of pork from the Democrat table.  They play to win, by which I mean they rip out your heart and make you eat it.  They're the ones that "persuaded" the New York Times to run the "Hanoi Dick" story that started this common thread of Blumenthal BS unraveling three months ago.  Now Linda McMahon's effectively limitless self-funding abilities gave him such a case of fundraising penis-envy that she goaded him into another yowler that was instantly pounced on and exposed.

The McMahon narrative is writing itself: "Look at what I've accomplished in the private sector - THE REAL WORLD - and what I can bring to the U.S. Senate, versus More Of The Same that's been ruining the country from Capitol Hill for the past four years.  You know what he stands for, because you can't believe a word he says."

Haven't seen a poll in this race since this one, but I'm inching towards believing in the possibility that Connecticut could be witness to the biggest heel humiliation since DX gave Vince that manure bath back in '06.

***We can rest assured about one thing: If "Hanoi Dick" does make it to the U.S. Senate, he'll have a real short learning curve thanks to his natural prevaricatory talent - and Fussy Russy Feingold won't have to stick around to show him those ropes:

First, does this remind anybody else eerily of Michael Dukakis' 1988 presidential campaign slogan?  You know, after he'd robotically assured wife Kitty (and Bernard Shaw, who asked the question during a televised debate) during a hypothetical vicious rape to "lie back and enjoy it" (or something like that) and had fallen behind Pappy Bush by double digits?  Is this really the guy the de-suited, rusticed-up Fussy Russy wants to plagiarize?

And does he really want to make the same "just plain folks" claims and cite as examples Big Labor lobbyists?

Earlier this month, as part of his ongoing election-year re-invention, Russ Feingold released an ad called “On Our Side,” featuring what are supposed to be ordinary Wisconsinites praising Feingold for siding with them. But who is Feingold siding with? As it turns out, one of the people featured in the ad is high-powered AFL-CIO lobbyist Joanne Ricca.

“Did Russ Feingold really need to spend all that money on an ad to show off that he sides with the lobbyists and special interests over the people of Wisconsin? Or did the big unions just want some screen time as payback for more than a million dollars in campaign contributions? Either way, Russ Feingold is making it pretty clear who he really sides with at the end of the day,” said Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. …

Contrary to his well-tailored image, Senator Feingold has been a long-time favorite of lobbyists and special interest groups and has consistently stood with them on liberal pieces of legislation such as card check. Feingold has repeatedly told the voters of Wisconsin that lobbyists have “tainted” the system in Washington and he would work to “limit special access.” But having lobbyists star in his campaign commercials and accepting more than one million dollars in Union PAC contributions throughout his career in the Senate shows a different — and more accurate — side.

A point I meant to make in the Blumenthal segment, but fits just as well here: I think the recklessness of this amateurish mendaciousness reflects exactly how clueless Democrats are about the electoral asteroid headed for impact on November 2nd.  Remember how Barack Obama did all the same anti-lobbyist/anti-"special interest" halo-polishing last cycle, and how it all got dutifully exposed as bovine scatalogy, and how nobody cared because of Obamedia blackouts and because too many voters "wanted to believe"?  For your standard-issue Corrupticrat, it was the carte-blanche graft buffet of a lifetime.  And apparently they never thought it was ever going to end.

All these naked emperors, and not a one of them grasps that there's not a stitch in sight.  All these dinosaurs, looking up at that growing light in the sky and thinking how pretty it is.  All the lib pilgrims, seeing at last light at the end of the tunnel of this summer of darkness.

You know the rest of that metaphor.
