The Fine Art Of DeLay
Because, above all else, a god needs compassion:
The Justice Department has informed former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) that the government has ended a six-year investigation of his ties to the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to DeLay’s lead counsel in the matter, Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods.
The investigation lasted through two presidents and four attorneys general. Its demise provides a stark footnote to the lobbying scandals that helped Democrats regain the House majority they held for forty years and lost in the Republican revolution of 1994, which eventually made the pugnacious DeLay one of Washington’s top power brokers.
A "stark note"? Forget exonerating The Hammer; the grand jury couldn't even find enough dirt to charge him with anything. After SIX BLEEPING YEARS.
What is this, another fever-swamp-infuriating, base-turnout-discouraging, starting-to-look-like-they're-trying-to-tank-the-election-or-else-they-just-used-up-all-their-karma-the-last-two-cycles Donk "setback"? I thought the old conventional wisdom was that a federal prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. And they can't even CHARGE Tom DeLay with so much as JAY-WALKING?
After SIX YEARS?
C'mon, seriously, after six frickin' years, wasn't political persecution the whole point? Why stop now? Did DeLay agree never to run for dogcatcher much less Congress ever again? What was in this for Eric The Red?
And can't you see a similar fate somewhere in Darrell Issa's future?
