The Superior Blasphemer
Charlie Rangel, "losing what few marbles he has left":
Charlie Rangel has heard from the man (err, woman) upstairs about a House ethics probe, and the verdict is — fight, Charlie, fight! “How lucky you are when God tells you that you don’t have to take a plea,” Rangel said during a speech Thursday in Harlem. He later backtracked on communing with God, saying, “I haven’t spoken to Her lately.”
Unbelievable. His messiah finally descends from Chicago, rams through Heaven On Earth, isn't even two full years into his Eternal Kingdom, and already Good-Time Charlie has turned aside to worshipping idolatrous Nancy Pelosi bobblehead dolls. Has he no shame?
***No, he doesn't. And Roland Burris has even less:
Illinois Senator Roland Burris is moving ahead with a legal challenge to a judge’s decision blocking new candidates from filing to run in a special election for the final months of President Barack Obama’s old Senate term.
Burris filed a notice Wednesday evening indicating that he will appeal U.S. District Judge John Grady’s ruling that the parties’ nominees for the November 2 general election would automatically be placed on the ballot as nominees for a special election to serve between Election Day and the start of the next Congress.
That decision would make Democratic state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Representative Mark Kirk the major-party candidates in a special. But Burris wants the option of running for the seat himself, in order to serve an additional few weeks in his appointed office.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call short-sighted thinking. It certainly isn't team-player-edness. Or maybe there really isn't any honor amongst thieves. Surely Burris knows that shoehorning himself into the simultaneous special election will split the Donk vote in an already close Giannoulias-Kirk general race and hand The One's old senate seat to the future Enterprise captain's ancestor two months earlier than he would otherwise have assumed it.
So what's really the motivation for Burris trying to sue his way into a triple-threat match? Does he have a grudge against Gia-pet? Did Alexi screw him over on some deal in the past? Or is he truly so manifestly stupid as to (1) think he can actually win a three-way in the special election and (2) think kicking away that seat to the GOP is worth trying for "an additional few weeks"? Does he think Gia is a Republican mole or something? Won't cooperate in the Lame Duck ram-fest? Seriously, anybody got any ideas on this?
From the standpoint of truth, justice, and the American way, the only drawback is that the pervasive Blago-stink Gia AND Burris would/will bring to this showdown will require noseplugs so vise-like that we won't be able to taste the butter on our popcorn.
