However much gleefully sadistic pleasure leftwingnuts got out of the failed Err Amerika host and all around jackass robbing Norm Coleman blind and actually becoming a United States senator - and I've no doubt it was immense - there was guaranteed to be a downside to elevating a malignant buffoon like Al Franken to such a lofty perch.

A fact that South Dakota's soon-to-be ex-Donkresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin has come to know first-hand:

With those red-state Dems distancing themselves somewhat from Pelosi, it’s interesting to note MN Senator Al Franken’s (D) comments this weekend while campaigning for Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD).

Franken visited the state to tour an Indian Reservation with Herseth Sandlin, and he also used the opportunity to tout her re-election campaign. “She has voted differently than I voted on a couple of things,” Franken said, according to the Rapid City Journal, “but we need to be able to have somebody here in South Dakota who’s going to vote for Speaker Pelosi, not for Speaker Boehner.”

While Herseth Sandlin hasn’t exactly run away from Pelosi like some other Dems, she can’t like the fact that Franken, in this generally conservative, GOP-leaning state, would tout her vote for the Speaker. Herseth Sandlin’s first TV ad touted her independence, and her opposition to the “trillion dollar health care plan.”

On his next visit, Senator Smalley and Miss Sandlin will tour a rotweiler kennel where he will campaign for her by tieing her to a lamppost and dousing her in steak sauce.  It's all part of his theraputic plan to convince her that "politics isn't everything, but it isn't anything without Nancy Pelosi at large from the asylum."

Did you know that in a previous life, Al campaigned for George Custer at Little Big Horn by telling the Lakota and North Cheyenne tribes the old joke about how the ground all around them would be white if they ever decided to attack his candidate because they'd just keep coming and coming and coming?  Must have given them ideas.

You filthbags enjoyed Franken on the way up.  But not nearly as much as we will on your way down.

***So, lesson learned: run away from Al Franken.  And Nancy Pelosi.  And President 41%.  And everything they guaranteed rank & file Donks they could campaign on if only they'd help ram them through:

As Democrats fan out across the country to campaign for reelection this month, many are surprisingly quiet about their hard-won accomplishments — the major bills they have passed under President Obama.

In an effort coordinated with the White House, congressional leaders are urging Democrats to focus less on bragging about what they have done — a landmark healthcare law, a sweeping overhaul of Wall Street regulation and other far-reaching policy changes — and more on efforts to fix the economy and on the perils of Republican control of Congress…

Democratic strategists privately acknowledge that their party’s legislative record, while far-reaching and popular with party regulars, has limited political benefit in swing districts and in a stubbornly sluggish economy.

“Our candidates’ job is not to sell the accomplishments of the past but to send a message that strikes a chord,” said a senior Democratic advisor who did not want to be identified while discussing strategy. “I am not one who thinks our candidates should go out and sell healthcare reform. They have to stay focused on jobs, the economy and shaking up Washington.”

Here's a little nuance of electoral politics they must have missed: an "accomplishment" is not an "accomplishment" if (1) you never previously campaigned on it and (2) your constituents DON'T FRAKKING WANT IT.  The correct term is "provocation."  Which is subsequently followed by "retaliation," and "landslide" and "retirement," "Al Franken," "pirhanna petting," and "therapy".

And what do they have left to talk about?  Everything they're GOING to do for the economy that is just more of what they've already DONE to the economy, which their constituents DON'T FRAKKING WANT.  And BushBushBushBushBush.

They are, in a phrase, trying to run away from their record.  And as Sharron Angle is reminding Dirty Harry Reid (again), that is an impossibility.
