What's Barry Got Against Fussy Russy?

| Dear Friends: When a president travels to a particular state, it's usually to promote one of his signature policies. Presidents like to build support for their ideas by generating local news coverage of their visit. Today, President Obama is traveling to Wisconsin but he's not going to promote his unpopular health care takeover or his failed stimulus bill. He's traveling to Milwaukee this afternoon to save liberal Senator Russ Feingold (D) who is suddenly in danger of losing his job. Conservative U.S. Senate Candidate Ron Johnson is doing what few believed was possible: he's running a successful campaign against an entrenched incumbent in a state that went for Obama by 13 points in the 2008 presidential election.Johnson is doing so well that the Rothenberg Political Report recently shifted its analysis of Wisconsin's U.S. Senate Race in Ron Johnson's direction, moving the race from "Toss-up/Tilt Democrat" to "Toss-up." The Report said: Republican Ron Johnson continues to perform well in polling. Even if the challenger isn't doing as well as some GOP surveys suggest, it's clear that Sen. Russ Feingold's quirky outsider image has started to lose its luster. Johnson's straight-talking businessman/outsider persona fits the cycle perfectly, which makes this contest a pure Toss-up. Perhaps the best indication of Johnson's success, however, comes from his liberal opponent. Senator Feingold has launched attack after attack in a pathetic attempt to frame Johnson as an "extreme" candidate. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ron Johnson is a principled conservative who will fight to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are bankrupting our country. He understands the stimulus bill was a failure, he will fight to repeal the health care takeover, he opposes amnesty, and he will help us pass a constitutional amendment to balance the budget. Johnson owns a manufacturing company in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and is not a career politician. After the President signed the health care takeover into law, Johnson decided he couldn't stay on the sidelines any longer and launched a come-from-behind bid for the U.S. Senate. Now, Feingold is running scared -- and for good reason. Johnson is one of the strongest candidates in the nation while Feingold is one of the Senate's most liberal members and is responsible for the policies that have driven our nation's debt over $13 trillion. Feingold was the deciding 60th vote for President's Obama's $787 billion stimulus bill, which he said would create jobs and would not be spent unwisely. Both claims turned out to be false. In fact, since the stimulus bill was passed, Wisconsin has lost 82,000 jobs. And according to a new report, much of the money has been wasted on outrageous boondoggles. Here are just a few of the pork projects made possible by Senator Feingold's vote:
The Senate Conservatives Fund is determined to tell people about the differences between these two candidates and to provide Ron Johnson with the resources he needs to win. The Washington establishment says conservative candidates cannot win. Let's prove them wrong and put some real fighters in the Senate who will stand up to the big spenders in both political parties. President Obama is pulling out all the stops to save Feingold. Let's make sure his fundraising efforts don't go unanswered. Please support the Senate Conservatives Fund today so we can inform voters about the clear choice in this critical Senate race. Respectfully, ![]() Jim DeMint United States Senator Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund |
