Electoral Erectile Dysfunction
I guess Mike Castle decided that he didn't want to put that towering 5% flaccidity on national display after all:
Delaware Republican Rep. Mike Castle has opted against against running as a write-in candidate for Senate, a decision that strengthens Democrats’ chances of holding the seat on November 2.
“While I would have been honored to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate, I do not believe that seeking office in this manner is in the best interest of all Delawareans,” Castle said in a statement released this evening. “Therefore, it’s time for Jane and me to begin thinking about the next chapter of our lives.”
Castle, notably, did not endorse Christine O’Donnell, the tea party favorite who ousted him in the GOP primary earlier this year, in his statement leaving the race.
Can we dispense with this endorsement fretting once and for all? Yes, protocol required that he, as the primary loser, endorse her, as the primary winner. But she ran a spectacularly dirty campaign against him, and nobody can objectively condemn him for taking a while to let the wounds heal before he offers up any forgiveness for it.
Besides, she's so bad a general election candidate, in addition to being inherently out of step with such a "blue" state, that does anybody really believe the endorsement of the guy who just exited the race because he was reduced to mid-single-digits would make any more of a difference than his contemplated write-in campaign was going to?
