If A RINO Fell In The Forest....

.....would anybody even be within earshot?:

It is possible that a write-in campaign by Congressman Mike Castle could hurt Democrat Chris Coons more than Republican Christine O’Donnell in the Delaware campaign for U.S. Senate.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Delaware voters finds Coons with 49% support, while O’Donnell earns 40% of the vote. Castle, a longtime congressman who lost to O’Donnell in the state’s GOP Primary, picks up five percent (5%). Another five percent (5%) remain undecided. (See toplines).

Polling for write-in campaigns is always challenging, so results should be interpreted with caution. For this survey, Rasmussen Reports asked respondents about a choice between Coons and O’Donnell without mentioning Castle. That is the choice voters will see when they enter the voting booth. However, when response options were offered to survey respondents, Castle’s name was mentioned.

Castle has not indicated that he will run a write-in campaign and it is likely that his support could increase if he were to do so. Rasmussen Reports did ask Castle supporters who they would vote for in a two-person race and virtually all said either Coons or not sure.

Five percent?  Really?  Good heavens, the Murk is polling 27% in Alaska as a write-in, and Castle's got a bigger, um, political footprint in Delaware than she has in the Great White North.  I wouldn't expect him to draw any of CO'D's meager support after what she did to him in the primary, but I'm having a difficult time believing that he wouldn't pull at least double digits, and all of it from Coons.  It's got to be....emasculating for Castle to have to absorb such a dousing of cold reality of his sudden political irrelevance after nearly half a century as a fixture in Delaware politics.  Something in which I'm sure O'Donnelloids will take great, guffawing pleasure, until they realize that this changes their bleak situation not in the slightest.

Sure, there's still thirty-six days on the clock, but if I'm Team Lenin, I'm not opening the bubbly yet, but I'm definitely putting it on ice, ready to drink multiple head-shaking toasts at the victory party to the roaring stupidity of Christine O'Donnell and the Tea Party Express.
