O, No

Some Democrats aren't too afraid or too Kool-Aid-addled to see the handwriting on the wall - and say so publicly:

The 2010 Democrat Party: A mutual, sucky disappointment society.

Hey, it's funnier than anything Stewart came up with in that clip.

There comes a point in any down political cycle (and nobody knows that better than Republicans after the last two) when, in morale terms, you bail.  You don't want to ride the flaming wreck all the way to the pavement, you know you're going to lose, and you get into heavy-duty bitching about all that went wrong.

This is known as the "acceptance" stage.  Because, you know, they expended all their anger at their cavalcade of boogeypeople.

So it should come as absolutely no surprise that Stewart is about the only Democrat in the country who has taken up residence on Acceptance Island:

Democratic congressional leaders used a White House strategy session Thursday to push President Barack Obama to be more aggressive in helping them campaign in the final weeks before November’s elections, multiple senior Democratic sources familiar with the meeting tell CNN.

According to the sources, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the president that congressional Democrats want to see more of the kind of campaign rally and rhetoric he displayed this week in Wisconsin. They said they especially want him to continue to make the case – and the contrast with Republicans – on jobs and the economy

A fourth source familiar with the meeting said Democratic leaders discussed with the president the need to focus on the party’s base and make sure it’s revved up. But, the source added, the lawmakers also told him that “we can’t forget about the independents.”

Although Obama’s popularity has dipped, Democrats say they still believe that when he is “on” – like they believe he was in Wisconsin this week – he is their best campaign advocate and spokesman against the Republicans

Gentles, if that's the case, a hundred seat loss in the House may be low-balling it.  As for the rest, watch the Stewart clip again.

Is this insanity?  Well, there's always mental irregularity involved in everything Democrats do, but I think it's more nostalgia.  Everything else they've tried in this cycle has failed miserably.  They thought the economy was taken care of nineteen months ago with Hogzilla; instead it's still in the waste extractor and we're trillions deeper in debt.  They rammed through ObamaCare on the wing and prayer that it would miraculously become popular and they could run on it in the fall; instead the past six months have vindicated everything socialized medicine opponents predicted and it's so unpopular that no Donk but Wisconsin's Fussy Russy Feingold has dared even mention it, and after he ran an ad defending his support, he fell four points further behind Ron Johnson in the very next poll.  Even their very life's blood, Bush-bashing, no longer has any effect; instead Bush has become more popular than Obama in battleground states.

Democrats have nothing left in the present....so they're turning to the past in a morbid attempt to recapture magic that, in B.O.'s case, can only work once.

There's a reason why "Perfect Storms" are so rare.  They're the convergence of multiple very specific factors that all have to come together at the same time.  Even more to the point, they cannot be artificially recreated.  The magic is gone and never coming back because Barack Obama is now a known quantity, which is to say, discredited and disliked.  Sending him out there to smear his logo feces, grinning rictus, and trite, cliched, hackneyed maunderings all over the dying remains of his party would be....

....altogether appropriate, actually.  And he'll NEVER get his fingerprints off the corpses.

Pass me a Slurpee.  This is gonna be good.
