Return Of The Sith?

I knew my instincts about this tiresome, misdirected TPE populism crap were leading back to something.  Who knew Eeyore would be my divining rod?:

By the way, a question for longtime Hot Air readers: Does all the ruling class/elitist rhetoric being tossed around these days remind you of anyone? I don’t mean Sarahcuda; I’m thinking back to the 2008 primaries. Maybe this will jog your memories:

“Well, this is kind of music to my ears because all through the presidential run when I was engaged in it two years ago what I constantly came up against was sort of the elitism of the Republican establishment, the snooty down their nose gee you’re not properly pedigreed you didn’t go to Harvard or Yale. You went to a Christian college and you didn’t run with the cocktail crowd in Manhattan. Well you know what? I think the greatest thing that’s happening in regards to the Tea Party is that it’s reminding the rest of America that ordinary people can make a dramatic difference in this country.”

That’s from an interview conducted by David Brody this morning with — ta da — Mike Huckabee. Remember when he used to push the blue-collar “me vs. the elitists” line and we would tear him up in the comments for promoting resentment and intraparty divisions and class warfare? Good times.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!  NO!  NO!  NO!  A ZILLION TIMES NO!  NOT DARTH SCUDDER AGAIN!  Ah cain't STAAAANDS Darth Scudder!  If I've gotta listen to Red Barry lecturing me dishonestly on one side and Mike F'ing Huckawhatsis coming at me from the other as the white, Christian Obama, I swear I'm gonna jam ice picks in my ears until they meet in the place RINOs call home - the center.

Good times, my ass.

As for the Murk (Say, don't you think she and Christine O'Donnell have kind of become the Thelma and Louise of the Republican Party, driving towards the edge of that cliff with the GOP bound and gagged in the back seat?), no, she can't win, and I'd put her chances of boning Joe Miller out of her Senate seat at less than 50-50.

Want another reason why?  This is your lucky day:

Less than an hour before Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski planned to announce a write-in campaign to retain her seat, her top aide e-mailed scores of the most prominent lobbyists in Washington to ask them to join a Saturday conference call with the senator. …

Karen Knutson, Murkowski’s chief of staff, emailed scores of top lobbyists in town and employees at some of the largest oil companies – including Chevron, Conoco Phillips and Marathon Oil – to ask them to join the senator on a conference call Saturday, according to a copy of the e-mail and a recipient list obtained by POLITICO.

“To my friends in D.C. – if you are so inclined, please join us for a conference call with Lisa Murkowski tomorrow at 2:30 D.C. time and 10:30 Alaska time,” wrote Knutson. “She would love to have the chance to talk with you and answer any questions you may have. Please let me know if you intend to call in.”

Everybody hates lobbyists, right?  Shitting on lobbyists is a bigger spectator sport than hockey in this country, isn't it?  It's the POPULIST thing to do, eh?  So that should play right into Joe Miller's "true conservative" hands, right?  And they're BIG OIL lobbyists, so that gives a little "bipartisan" gift to Scott McAdams at the same time, hmm?

The only candidate this conference call doesn't help is....Lisa Murkowski.  Unless she's thinking her nearly two million dollar warchest isn't enough to fuel the magnitude of write-in campaign she's envisioning.  Maybe she can call up The One and get his permission to tap his BP slush fund in exchange for switching parties if she wins.
