The Anti-Grayson
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Daniel Webster, Republican challenger to Representative Alan Grayson (D-Hell). He's the photographic negative of the incumbent. He's much nicer than even his historical namesake, who was the Chucky Schumer of his day.
In other words, after this week, Daniel Webster is more than just famous; he's heroically sympathetic:
Oh, yeah, the Jester of Darkness has helped Dannyboy's campaign - in a hundred thousand different ways. It's no exaggeration to say that Grayson effectively ran two hit ads against himself, for the starship-sized boomerang PR effect they're having.
Oh, and one more thing about Mr. Webster: he's.....ahead:
In one of the most closely watched U.S. House races in the nation, Republican Daniel Webster now holds a seven-point lead over Democratic Representative Alan Grayson in Central Florida’s 8th Congressional District, according to a new Sunshine State News Poll.
Webster, a former state senator, leads the freshman congressman 43%-36% in the survey of 559 likely voters conducted September 25-27. TEA (“Taxed Enough Already”) Party candidate Peg Dunmire drew 6% and NPA hopeful George Metcalfe garnered 3%, while 9% remained undecided (2% cited “other” and 1% refused to state).
Digging deeper, the numbers look even worse for Grayson as 51% of respondents said they had an unfavorable view of the Orlando-area congressman.
Two other nuggets of note: Grayson somehow still leads with independents (which won't last long after just the sort of nastiness indies deplore) and this poll was taken before Teacups' shitstorm made TV-fall.
I'd say it's time to stick the proverbial fork in Alan Grayson, except he's already pretty much plunged two shishkabob skewers in his own vitals. Call it unwitting self-sacrifice for a worthy cause.
And he couldn't have done it for a nicer guy.
