Why The Hysteria?

I find myself in the strange position of disagreeing with some conservatives whom I have great respect for regarding this Christine O'Donnell hullaballoo. I really don't understand the consternation with which her nomination is being met. Why on earth do we want a Mike Castle? Even Jim Geraghty at National Review's Campaign Spot has tried to gloss over Castle's voting record a bit. What good is a Senator who votes with the Democrats almost half the time? Why not give O'Donnell a chance? I see no point to this piling on by our side. Her stand on the issues is right. They said she'd never beat Mike Castle, and she did. She could come up with another surprise in November if her own party wasn't trying to undermine her. I really don't get this. We say we want conservatives in Congress, and then complain when one is nominated over a clear RINO. I am vastly disappointed in Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer. It's one thing to disagree, but they have stooped to impugning her character. I really see no upside to that.

And that's my two cents' worth.

JASmius adds: Oh, come now, Jen, the price of admission hasn't been that cheap in YEARS.

You can see any of my posts on this topic over the past two weeks for the details of the "hysteria," but the short version is: Christine O'Donnell is a fraud who doesn't live the "true conservative" values she espouses and is a huge political liability as a general election candidate.  She isn't a Marco Rubio, or a Ron Johnson, or a Joe Miller, or a Pat Toomey, or even a Sharron Angle.  And even if she was, a "true conservative" is unlikely to get elected in a state as far left as Delaware.  By hatcheting Mike Castle into retirement, the Tea Party Express has forfeited a Senate seat that was already in the bag with half the proverbial loaf and now will be retained by the Donks - and whatever outside chance of taking back the majority - with a "bearded communist" loaf instead.

That is all that Krauthammer and Rove - who, remember, is a professional political strategist - said about CO'D.  It isn't a matter of "lack of faith" or "undermining" her; it's about stating unpleasant facts about political reality that O'Donnell's zealot followers refuse to hear.
