Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

.....and familiarity breeds contempt:

Americans are divided over whether President Barack Obama or his predecessor has performed better in the White House, according to a new national poll.

And a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday also indicates in the battle for Congress, Republicans hold large advantages over the Democrats among independents, men and blue-collar whites. The poll also indicates that Republicans are much more enthusiastic than Democrats to vote.

By 47% to 45%, Americans say Obama is a better president than George W. Bush. But that two point margin is down from a twenty-three point advantage one year ago.

"Democrats may want to think twice about bringing up former President George W. Bush's name while campaigning this year," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

Hyuk.  No shinola, Sherlock.  Although these ARE Democrats we're talking about.  Detox for an addiction that strong takes an awfully long time to administer.

Eeyore heroically tries, per his gimmick, to put a bummer spin on it, but let's cut that crap off at the pass, my friends: This poll result is AMAZING.  George W. Bush left office with the worst approval numbers since Harry Truman.  Hopenchange was the biggest thing since warm toilet seats.  The contrast was supposed to be gigantic and remain that way forevermore.

And now they're even-steven.  Within two years.  According to an Obamedia pollster.  From a sample of "adults".  Care to guess what a Rasmussen likely voter model would produce?

And yet this really isn't news.  What it is is the public having taken the measure of Red Barry coupled with Dubya no longer being defenselessly pilloried on a daily basis.  Call it the blue plate special of broken spells.  Perspective has returned.  And if he wants a second term, The One is going to have to do it the way he didn't have to the first time: by earning it.  Another undertaking at which Bammy has zero experience.

Given what that'll take policy-wise, let's just say it'll answer the question of just what kind of legacy he really wants.
