Passing Out His Enemies' List
You could get the distinct impression from this anti-Gringo harangue that Barack Obama wants to re-fight the Mexican War, with himself in the role of General Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna:
In a radio interview that aired on Univision on Monday, Mr. Obama sought to assure Hispanics that he would push an immigration overhaul after the midterm elections, despite fierce Republican opposition.
“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.”
Nothing like a little post-partisan unifying to bring us all together, is there? Guadelupe Hidalgo II, here we come!
And when he uses the term "enemies," that's EXACTLY what he means:
Referring specifically to Republicans such as Senator John McCain, who are stressing border security and supporting strict immigration laws like Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration measure, Mr. Obama said, “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”
American national sovereignty and the rule of law are now officially "unAmerican". Nice of him to notarize what we knew all along.
But Hispanics would be well advised to consider the low priority El Presidente gave to shoving Obamnesty down the public's gullet when he had a seventy-seven seat House majority and filibuster-proof control of the Senate, to say nothing of how he's implicitly setting them up to be scapegoats for why he has to renege (again) on this promise once he's actually confronted by a Republican Congress less than eager to carry his water for border erasure, backed up by steady two-to-one public opposition.
My advice: Tell him to stick his OWN reconquista-wannabe neck out for la causa:
When Piolin asserted that it appeared that the Obama administration had worked less hard on immigration than it had on other issues, such as healthcare, Obama disagreed.
“My cabinet has been working very hard on trying to get it done, but ultimately, I think somebody said the other day, I am president, I am not king. I can’t do these things just by myself. We have a system of government that requires the Congress to work with the executive branch to make it happen. I’m committed to making it happen, but I’ve gotta have some partners to do it,” Obama said.
Oh, I don't know, I seem to remember that a royal decree along these lines was under serious consideration not all that long ago. Here he's just pathetically pandering to scrounge up enough extra Donk votes to board up a few more windows against next Tuesday's killer wave. But "make no mistake," a "king" is PRECISELY what he considers himself, and after the deluge carries away the House and Senate, you can bet your last worthless dollar that he will conveniently "rediscover" all the things he can do "unilaterally," the law and GOP Congress be damned.
Exit question: When Red Barry "slams his fist down on the national immigration chessboard by granting some sort of blanket legalization" next year, will Republicans "slam his head down on the national immigration chessboard" right alongside it, or will too many RINOs view it as "go along to get along" cover to "get something done" in the "spirit of bipartisanship" because it's "going to happen anyway"?
UPDATE: The digital contrast just BURNS, doesn't it:
