Charles Rangel Guilty
Just breaking over at NRO: The House Ethics subcommittee has found Representative Charles Rangel guilty on eleven of the thirteen charges he faced. Big Whoop. Sorry for my cynicism (Jim's rubbing off on me), but he might receive a "formal censure?" The rest of us would be in jail. Just wait...the calls of "RACISM!" are a-comin'....
JASmius rubs: Makes sense, actually. They already decided over three months ago that there wouldn't be any consequences for Good Time Charlie's bread & circuses, which is why he referred his own case to the same "Ethics" Committee before which he had so much fun grandstanding yesterday. So why belabor the "jury" deliberations? It doesn't gain House Dems anything politically, while sewing this up and burying it ASAP binds a PR wound and limits the systemic damage. They have so much to turn the page on anyway, and finishing off this sorry episode shovels one more steaming pile into the scooper.
Rest assured, though, that while the ethics "prosecution" is over, the bread & circuses WILL continue. Given that Rangel is now in his eighties, and highly unlikely to ever hold a committee chairman's gavel again, his graft empire, much like Bill Clinton and his interns, is all Good Time Charlie has left.
