Today is the 237th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
We need to call forth a similar spirit this day and refuse to accept the dictates of a lame duck Congress that decisively lost the mandate of the American people on November 2nd.
There are two issues that require immediate attention this day from freedom loving citizens: stopping the outrageous omnibus government funding bill, and stopping the New START Treaty with Russia, both of which are before the U.S. Senate.
First, the Senate has just introduced a huge, 1,900 page omnibus government funding bill for next year. It has close to 7,000 earmarks (totaling about $8 trillion) and almost nobody has read it (For a working list of all the earmarks, go here). Democratic Congressional leaders have had all year to pass a government funding bill and now in the 11th hour of this Congress, they want to blackmail the American people with a shutdown of the government if we don't accept their pork barrel spending.
I just appeared on Fox News and urged total opposition to this irresponsible piece of legislation. You can watch that by going here.
Second, the "New START Treaty" with Russia is now being debated on the Senate floor. It is dangerous and irresponsible to push this treaty through the lame duck Senate. The United States and Russia have a fundamental disagreement over whether the treaty limits further development of our missile defense systems. The U.S. Senate must not weaken our ability to defend ourselves.
Consideration of this treaty can wait. In fact, no major treaty has ever been ratified during a lame duck Congress.
And so I urge you to call your Senators immediately and tell them to vote "NO" on both the omnibus government spending plan and to vote "NO" on the new START Treaty until the new Senate convenes next year. Tell your Senators to pass a "clean" government spending bill (without earmarks and pork) to keep the government open and funded until February, and then go home.
Last year the Senate Democrats rushed through ObamaCare legislation on Christmas Eve and the result was a disaster, with just this week a federal judge finding that the individual mandate -- a key element of ObamaCare -- is patently unconstitutional.
The defeated Congress is now following the same disastrous path this December.
We must stop the irresponsible spending.
We must stop the rushed consideration of a treaty that threatens to compromise America's right of self defense.
And once we've rejected the Left, we must start in January to replace their obsolete ideology and policies with a new model of safety, prosperity and freedom.
Please call your U.S. Senators today and tell them to vote no on the irresponsible omnibus spending bill and to vote no on the "New START Treaty" until the new Senate convenes next year. Your friend,
