1. Amanpour Frets: 'Will the Deep Budget Cuts on the Table Stick a Fork in the Recovery?'
Picking up on an argument made by economist Mark Zandi -- whom the Washington Post described as “an architect of the 2009 stimulus package” and who last year pushed for a second stimulus bill -- ABC’s Christiane Amanpour on Sunday morning, presuming there is an ongoing “recovery,” plugged a This Week roundtable topic: "Up next, Washington's answer to the job crisis. Will the deep budget cuts on the table stick a fork in the recovery?" In the subsequent segment, Amanpour forwarded: “$61 billion in budget cuts. Mark Zandi says 700,000 jobs will be lost.” Panelist Chrystia Freeland, global editor-at-large for Thomson-Reuters, agreed: “I think he's right.” Echoing Amanpour’s theme, over on Meet the Press NBC’s David Gregory...
2. On ABC, Daily Beast's Avlon Complains 'Obama Derangement Syndrome on the Right' Has 'Gotten Worse'
On the Sunday, March 6, Good Morning America on ABC, as the Daily Beast’s John Avlon appeared as a guest to make predictions about which Republicans will ultimately choose to run for President, he ended up complaining that “Obama Derangement Syndrome” has recently “gotten worse” and “deserves to be called out” because it is “divisive” and “unnecessary.”
3. Time's Stengel: GOP Nominee Will Treat Tea Party Like Sister Souljah, 'Tragedy' That GOP Wants to Cut AmeriCorps
Appearing as a panel member on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show on Sunday, during a discussion of potential Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee’s recent gaffe about President Obama growing up in Kenya, Time magazine managing editor Richard Stengel predicted that the eventual Republican nominee would have a "Sister Souljah moment with the Tea Party."
4. NBC Reporter Taints Big Oil With Watergate Scandal
On Friday morning, NBC's Tom Costello couldn't close his Today show report on high gas prices without airing the proverbial soundbite from an angry gas station customer accusing oil companies of gouging the consumer. Costello even managed to taint Big Oil with the Watergate scandal, in his set-up for the perturbed gas pumper, as he pointed out one of the highest prices he found in Washington D.C. was "right in the shadow of the Watergate" adding, "customers across the country are increasingly suspicious of the oil companies."
5. Martin Bashir and Bernie Sanders Agree: Hike Taxes on Wealthy and Oil Companies
MSNBC's Martin Bashir has only been on the job for a few days, but the newly-minted anchor is already letting his liberal flag fly. On his eponymous program on Thursday, Bashir was dumbfounded as to why Congress is reluctant to hike taxes on the rich and end tax deductions for oil companies. "Why won't Congress simply do what the people want?" lamented Bashir, interviewing Sen. Bernie Sanders (C-VT), the soviet socialist lawmaker who caucuses with Democrats.
6. CBS Again Praises Obama's 'Tough Talk' on Libya, While Defending His Inaction
At the top of Friday's CBS Early Show, co-host Erica Hill proclaimed: "Tough talk. As the violence continues to escalate between rebel forces, and Moammar Qadhafi's military, President Obama sends a clear message." A sound bite was played of Obama calling on Qadhafi to step down on Thursday. In a later report, correspondent Mandy Clark claimed Obama had "drawn his line in the sand." On the February 24 Early Show, co-host Chris Wragge touted the "very strong words" in the President's first public statement on the crisis. On that same broadcast, Clark claimed that Libyans "...felt encouraged that the President had come out with such strong words."
