Short Term Cost For Long Term Victory

Governor Scott Walker is so close to the finish line of a major victory for taxpayers across the nation – but he is suffering from a brutal wave of negative attacks in his home state of Wisconsin.

On Friday the Rasmussen poll found that 60% of Wisconsin voters “disapprove” of Governor Walker and 48% “strongly disapprove” of Governor Walker.

There is only one reason Governor Walker is suffering in the polls: the unrelenting liberal attacks on him.

It has been reported that the big unions are pouring millions into organizing activities and media to attack, distort and vilify Scott Walker and his proposed law.

Other reports suggest Barack Obama is working behind-the-scenes to defeat Scott Walker.

We know these attacks on Scott Walker are all lies.

He is not ending collective bargaining. He is not ending the right of public employees to organize unions.

What he is doing is curbing the power of these unions and their members, so he can modestly reduce their lavish benefits and pension packages – to make them comparable to what private sector workers get.

The fact is that Wisconsin is careening toward bankruptcy with a $3.6 billion budget gap.

This crisis requires strong action. Scott Walker and the legislature know they must give real medicine now before the state passes a point of no return.

The vote with the full Senate is nearing.

The Democrats are stalling for one reason: they know public support
for Scott Walker in Wisconsin is faltering.

Their attacks are working!

The League of American Voters is one of just a few national organizations on our side fighting for Scott Walker.

We have launched a wave of radio ads that continue to blanket the state. We have been telephoning hundreds of thousands of voters.

Our efforts have helped the legislature and Scott Walker hold the line so far.

But we must continue our work.

This coming week will probably be key to victory. We need to close the deal.

We also know that when the public gets the true facts about Scott Walker’s proposal and the state’s dire financial situation, we win converts.

A Democratic Public Policy poll just released a few days ago found that 47% of Wisconsin voters support Scott Walker. The most recent Rasmussen results show a movement against Walker because of the intense attacks he is receiving.

The League of American Voters continues to stand with a courageous governor.

Thank you for your support.

Yours for America,

Bob Adams
Executive Director
