Dear Policy Patriot, More Senators are threatening to vote against raising the debt ceiling unless the legislation includes significant deficit cuts. Finally, they are waking up and smelling the coffee! What happens if the debt ceiling is breached? Borrowed funds would legally not be available for the U.S. to pay its bills and we may be forced to default on all of our debt obligations, which as you know, is in the trillions. Ouch! Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) said, "As catastrophic as it would be to fail to raise our debt ceiling, it's even more irresponsible to not take this opportunity to own up to our unsustainable spending path." I couldn't agree more! America needs to act fast to get spending and debt under control. NCPA Chairman Pete du Pont explains it for you in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, "Time to Choose."
