1. ABC's Avila: Rick Perry 'Does Not Care' About Science, Has 'Close Relationship' with Guns
According to Good Morning America's Jim Avila, Rick Perry "does not care" about the "overwhelming scientific evidence" of global warming. The ABC reporter on Thursday offered a hostile, condescending take on the Texas Governor. Avila used odd language to explain that the Texas Governor "has a close relationship with guns, carries one while jogging. " Rather than mention the state's record of job creation, Avila lectured, "Rick Perry's Texas pours more greenhouse gas than any other state in the country and in the campaign trail yesterday, perhaps we found out why."
2. NY Times Calls Rick Perry Critic 'Republican Activist,' Leaves Off His Far-Left Environmental Activism
Ashley Parker's report on Rick Perry featured six paragraphs on a global warming discussion between Perry and N.H. citizen Jim Rubens, described by Parker as a “a Republican activist and high-tech investor from Etna." But the Times left out the fact that Rubens is also a consultant with the left-wing environmental group Union of Concerned Scientists.
3. Jack Cafferty Gives Credence to Liberal Conspiracy Tying Bachmann, Perry to Radical Christian Movement
Citing a Daily Beast piece linking GOP candidates Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry to a radical Christian strain called "Dominionism," CNN's Jack Cafferty fretted about a possible Christian theocracy in America on Wednesday's Cafferty File. "I got to reading this piece, and it scared the hell out of me," Cafferty fearfully remarked of the article's conspiratorial claims. "We contacted both campaigns a few hours ago, haven't heard a word back form either one of them."
4. NBC's Lauer Blames Continuing High Unemployment on Employer 'Discrimination'
On Wednesday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer teased an upcoming segment on unemployment by fretting: "And just ahead, help not wanted. If you're one of the 14 million Americans looking for work, you may have noticed a growing trend. Employers are posting job ads that say they're seeking only people who are currently employed or just recently laid off. Is that discrimination?" Later, Lauer asked Today financial editor Jean Chatzky about the practice: "This sounds like discrimination, job discrimination to me. Why isn't it?"
5. CNN Welcomes a Forbes Columnist's Call for 'Enormous Stimulus Program'
On Thursday, Forbes's Robert Lenzner claimed the U.S. needs a second stimulus, and CNN's financial gurus Richard Quest and Ali Velshi were content to leave him with his point. Velshi even acknowledged later that the country needs to "stimulate employment." Lenzner insisted that "What we really need, but unfortunately we're politically behind the eight-ball is, we need an enormous stimulus program of say, $200 billion to put to work all these people from the construction trades and building and real estate that are out of work."
6. CNN's Yellin Cherrypicks Poll Numbers to Spin for Obama
CNN's Jessica Yellin used a recent CNN poll Tuesday to give credence to the White House spin that President Obama is the victim of a bad economy he inherited from Bush. What Yellin failed to report was another CNN poll showing that Americans almost two-to-one disapprove of Obama's handling of the economy. Yellin, on Tuesday's The Situation Room, touted a July 25 CNN poll showing that 57 percent of Americans believe Bush and the Republicans are more to blame than Obama and the Democrats for the current economic troubles. She added that the Obama White House could credibly use that poll result to deflect blame toward President Bush for the poor economy.
7. CNN's Piers Morgan Pushes Rudy Giuliani, Libertarian Comedian Jillette to Endorse Higher Taxes
CNN host Piers Morgan argued for tax hikes during interviews with two separate guests on his Tuesday night show. The former British tabloid editor tried to persuade Rudy Giuliani, a possible GOP presidential candidate, that the Tea Party is in the minority in its stance against higher taxes and should consider spending cuts paired with increased tax revenues to cut the deficit. Later on in the show, Morgan hosted libertarian author Penn Jillette and stumped for raising taxes. "The solution is probably to raise taxes, to cut spending, to do special incentivizing for small business people," he told Jillette.
