Um, no, actually it's the economy that is the prisoner of Barack Obama, and part of Congress has all kinds of appetite for more spending, and more taxes gouged out of the vitals of the tattered remnants of the private sector as well.  It's just that in the debt ceiling showdown, The One wasn't able to bulldoze Boehner and McConnell into either caving (as the Obamunists demanded) or handing him the perfect opening to force a default on U.S. debt obligations and hang the blame on the GOP (as the Tea Party unwittingly - and therefore witlessly - demanded).  Instead they forced him to acquiese to an actual compromise that doesn't solve the problem but doesn't let him escape the blame for it that he so richly deserves.

Finally, Barack Obama has met a crisis he can't exploit, but that his enemies can.
